We had a great time in Crete this summer – Kalamaki Chania. Made lots of trips to Elafonisi, Samaria gorge, Gramvousa, Chora Sfakion, Loutro, Rethimno. Beautiful beaches and nature, great people. We stayed in Kalamaki – part of Chania, which is amazing town, apartments Alexandros – self-catering, quiet ant very friendly owners, I suggest it!

Not a beach lover myself however I am surprised the review of beaches in West Crete does not mention Falasarna. Drive west through Kastelli/Kissamos and follow the signs. Better than Elafonisi and uncrowded but with facilities.
